Bottom line: They asked what I wanted, gave a good no surprise price, and did it without badgering me about ANY further service.
07/11/2014 Needed an oil change. Reviewed with angst the ads by the first advertisers that pop up on Google. Noted the "Sale 19.95" large print finding after the tiny greyed-out fine print that it'd really cost $29 or $34 plus tax... Tired to death of expecting one price and have another quoted when I'm actually standing in the shop, and to hear the guy at the counter get defensive over my surprise that the real price isn't the advertised price.
...and why must I jump through so many hoops to make an on-line appointment. Why must I tell them my tire size and interior color scheme for an oil change?
But I chose a name brand, and was driving down VB Blvd, and came upon Beach Street. Stopped. Do you do oil change? Yeah. What's the price for regular oil and filter? $24.95 plus tax. Busy. 1 1/2 hours. Wait, maybe we can get you through quicker. After 15 minutes handed bill for 26.45 (1.50 tax added.) Asked about this disposal fee brand name shops charge. I thought shops SOLD the used oil and were paid for it. Yes, that's right. The disposal fee is for rags to wipe the mechanic's hands or whatever they want. Some charge added fees into two digits. We never do this.
Was walking out. Turned and asked about synthetic oil. Gave competitive price. Told me that with 200,000 miles I might want to consider it next time and why. Good day. Glad I came. I'll tell folk about this visit.
If my car needs something big I can't handle and I'm in the area, who do YOU think I'll take it to?
