Lewis Mountain Cabins

Shenandoah skyline drive is on of the greatest scenic routes that you can drive in USA. We simply enjoyed it and Lewis mountain cabins are well placed in almost middle of the route. Having seeing a bear with few minutes after entering to the park we were extremely happy this time. The waterfall (Dark Hollow falls, 1.4 mile hike, very close to the cabins) was not so big , about 70 ft, but it was gorgeous, icy cold even in the hot summer. You can buy firewood and meat to grill from the park operated shop, we simply loved the conversations with the ranger, and late afternoon grilling was wonderful. We did had an unexpected visitor, a big size deer came almost all the way to our fire. (Please do not feed wildlife). The cabins are well equipped even though it is in the middle of nowhere.
