Sears extended warranties are a waste of money. I've had a number of Sears major appliances over the years, including a washing machine (3-yr warranty) and a GE oven (5-yr warranty, $299.99). While I didn't have a need for actual repairs on either, I did use the opportunity for a maintenance checkup on both (I did put it off until near the warranty expiration). The technician in each case did very little. In the case of the washer, the tech asked for a few paper towels and some Windex. That was apparently his or Sears' idea of doing basic maintenance on a washer. I couldn't believe it. For the oven, there wasn't a great deal more. Pre-heat the oven, check the temp with some gauge (at least had equipment this time). Done in 15 minutes or less. I can't say how they would have handled actual repair work, but their basic maintenance was part of the warranty and I received virtually nothing for it.
