Like many folks I'm sure, my first call was to that company that has saturates the radio with ads for windows. I swear I almost had to call the police to get the salesman to leave after his presentation when I thanked him and told him I was collecting estimates and I would be in touch. It was awful.
My next call was to Allied upon Washington Checkbook's recommendation. The owner Charles came one evening and the visit was more like having a cup of coffee with a neighbor than being on the defensive with a slick, aggressive salesman. Oh, and the cost for the same windows was about 35% less than the "MUST BUY TONIGHT SUPER SPECIAL DEAL" the other guy wouldn't take no for an answer to.
I stopped looking and had my new windows installed within a week. When I opened a window wrong and yanked, causing it to come off the track, (totally my fault) Charles was there that afternoon setting it right (no charge of course) and showing me what I did wrong. We also had them come back and replace an old, clunky aluminum sliding door with a beautiful vinyl slider that we love and use much more because it's so much easier.
That was about 3 years ago and since then, whenever I hear someone say they are thinking of new windows, I tell them not to waste time shopping around, just call Allied.
