On August 9 , 2017 my husband and I were scheduled to view the 9209 Granby st property. My husband and I were prepared to immediately sign a year lease and pay the deposit for the property. Since we were told by re/max central that application process was on a first come first served basis, also since we are 4 income household with ideal credit for renting (IE. no evictions, no bankruptcies, no judgments) we were very optimistic. Our appointment was scheduled for August 9, 2017 at 4:00pm. We were told by the receptionist to arrive on time because appointments were in 15min intervals. We were also told we were property manager that will be showing the property was also the owner of the Virginia beach office Alex Nova. We arrived early awaiting Alex Nova we were the fist ones there. Alex Nova did not arrive to show the property until 5:30pm, with no apologies and no explanations. He over an hour late so much so that by the time Alex Nova arrived 4 other families had arrived 2 of which left because he took so long. When he finally arrived we had already decided we wanted the property and were filling out the application. We explained to Alex we were looking to sign a year lease and that our current lease was up in October, so immediate occupancy was very important to us. We immediately submitted all the information and application fees required. We called afterward and told to please allow 48 hours to be contacted about the next step. It is now October 2, 2017, I have attempted to contact Re/Max Virginia beach numerous times in the last two months and received nothing. We have not received and email, spam, a phone call, text message or anything. I finally, after numerous attempts, was able to reach the receptionist she tells me we should have an email. I explain to her we have not heard anything we were the first to submit our application and we have been waiting to be notified of where to send our security deposit to. She had a no knowledge of why we haven't been notified and proceeds to cover herself by saying “ Your application was denied because the owner was looking for tenants who would be willing to sign a year lease”. I explained to her that was ridiculous because of course we wanted to sign a year lease, and in addition we explained to Alex Nova that we were insistent in signing a year lease. Then the secretary places me on hold for over 15 minutes. Finally I reach the secretary again and she transfers me to a voicemail, that is not Alex Nova's voicemail. I am still as we speak to trying to reach out to someone to give me a logical answer. So not only did I miss work on August 9 because Alex Nova was over an hour late, not only did Re/Max Central VA Beach take our application fees, but they also had no valid reason for denying our application and did not notify us of anything. I like my family was completely discriminated against because even if our application was denied due to negative information on our report ( even though the secretary assured me that was NOT the case) we still were not notified. I feel like this office specifically scams families like ourselves out of application fees. I feel like they list these rentals because the owner of the property pays them and because they receive non-refundable application fees from families. However the property remains vacant, the secretary even lied to me and said the property 9209 Granby is being rented, I explained to her that is false because my husband and I had just visited the property and it is still vacant. So the property remains vacant while Alex Nova continues to collect application fees, meanwhile the owner ( who is paying Re/Max to manage the property) is being told that there hasn't been inquiries on renting the property. As result of the owner being lied to for so long (being told no one wants to rent his property) is being bamboozled into putting the house on the market for sale, so Alex Nova office can collect the commission in addition to hoarding innocent families application fees.
